William "Bill" D. Haffly

    William D. “Bill” Haffly, age 92 of Dongola, went home to be with the Lord on August 18, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. with his loving wife of 67 years by his side. He was born on March 10, 1931 in Dongola, the son of Joseph C. and Althiea A. (Bennefield) Haffly. He married Mary L. Osman on June 2, 1956 in Golconda, Illinois.

    Bill is survived by his wife, Mary Haffly of Dongola; one daughter, Tia King of Jonesboro; granddaughter, Marria Walker (Fletcher Laws) and grandson, Curtis Walker along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, including his special dog, Rosie. He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings.

    Bill proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was a “jack of all trades”. He loved to work and always kept himself busy. He enjoyed farming and gardening. He loved spending time with his family and especially enjoyed camping, traveling and taking them fishing. At home and during his travels, he enjoyed visiting places to listen to traditional country music.

    Funeral services for William D. “Bill” Haffly will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 22, 2023 at Rendleman and Hileman Funeral Home in Jonesboro with Perry Williams and Brent Miller officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Pisgah Cemetery near Dongola. Visitation will take place from 12:00 p.m. until the service time at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home on Tuesday, August 22.
