Nancy Anne (Lyskawa) Munsell

          Nancy Anne Lyskawa Munsell, age 71 of Witt, formerly of Anna, died Friday, November 3, 2023 at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield. She was born May 8, 1952 in Chicago, the daughter of Frank and Annalee (Montgomery) Lyskawa. She was raised by her maternal grandparents William and Leeta Montgomery after the death of her father in March of 1954. Her mother passed away when she was 10. She attended school in Anna and graduated from Southern Illinois University of Carbondale with a Bachelors of Science in Elementary Education in 1974. She married Travis Allen Munsell in Warner Robbins, Georgia on July 13, 1974. They later divorced.

          Nancy went on to obtain a Masters degree in Education Administration and Elementary Education in 2001. She taught for 35 years at Witt Elementary School in Witt.  She regarded all of her students as her own children as well as her Maltese puppies that will be laid to rest with her.   

          Nancy is survived by Cindy Abrams Stokes, who was her daughter by choice; cousins, Debbie Mattheis of Anna and Jim Hale of Atlanta, GA; other relatives and many friends.

         Graveside services for Nancy Munsell will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, November 17, 2023 at the Anna Cemetery. Interment will follow. Memorial contributions may be made to the Paws Care of Montgomery County 423 S. Main St. Hillsboro, Illinois 62049. Envelopes will be available at the cemetery.
