Mary Helen Ury, age 90 of Jonesboro, passed away Tuesday, September 5, 2023 at the Jonesboro Rehab and Nursing Center. She was born October 23, 1932 in Elco, the daughter of Raymond Cerny and Thelma Ray. She married Bob J. Ury on January 26, 1951, spending many blessed years together before his passing on January 19, 1999.
Mary Helen is survived by her two sons, Scott (Carolyn) Ury of Anna, David (Alice) Ury of Jonesboro, one daughter, Susan (Dave) Diehl of Centralia; four grandchildren, Amanda (Daryl) Barnhart, Stephanie Plott, Ethan Ury, and Erica Ury; four great-grandchildren, Hallie Plott, Lucas Plott, Mackenzie Barnhart and Colton Barnhart; half-sister, Debbie (Steve) Spomer of Cairo; step-brother, Charles (Jackie) Ray of Florida; many nieces, nephews other relatives and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Bob J. Ury, infant daughter, sister, Jean (Elbert Lee) Hileman; and step-brother, James Ray.
Mary Helen was a member of Mt. Moriah Lutheran Church in Anna, where she shared her love of baking for so many funeral dinners and fellowship refreshments. She spent many hours on end making her homemade quilts, reading, playing bingo, attending Bible study and of course, cooking in her kitchen.
Mary Helen retired from the Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS). She put her whole heart into helping so many children and families, she truly loved her job.
Graveside funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, September 9, 2023 at the St. Johns Cemetery west of Dongola with Pastor Mark Hasty officiating. Interment will immediately follow. Everyone attending is asked to go directly to the cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are preferred to St. Johns Church or St. Johns Cemetery. Envelopes will be available at the cemetery and the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home.
