Julia (Lawrence) Grammer

          Julia Grammer, age 96 of Makanda, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, October 24, 2023. She was born February 26, 1927 in Okmulgee, OK, the daughter of William O. and Alice G. (Fletcher) Lawrence. She married Carrol Grammer on September 17, 1950 in El Monte, California. He preceded her in death on April 17, 2014.

          Julia is survived by her adoptive son, Ben and wife Jewell Cross and their children, Seranna, Mara Jane and Emma Joan Cross all of Makanda; other family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Carrol Grammer; son, Lawrence Andrew Grammer; daughter, Carroljane “C.J.” Grammer; and siblings, Wilma G. Vosburgh, Sue Phelps, Elaine Johnson, and Billy Lawrence.

          Julia was a member of the First Baptist Church in Makanda. She worked for Bell Telephone for over twenty years before her retirement. She loved to dance and share stories of her life and time together with Carrol. Julia will be dearly missed.

          Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 28, 2023 at the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Anna with Pastor Dennis Nance officiating. Interment will be in the Evergreen Cemetery in Makanda. Friends may visit after 10:00 a.m. and until the service hour at 11:00 on Saturday, October 28, 2023 at the funeral home.
