Ernest M Rhodes

    Ernest M. Rhodes, age 88 of rural Jonesboro, passed away Wednesday, August 2, 2023 at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. He was born on February 11, 1935 in Beech Grove, the son of Ernest Rhodes and Molly Frogge. He married Doris Groves on May 26, 1956.

    Ernest is survived by his wife of 67 years, Doris; daughters, Becky (Don) of Texas, Nancy of Arizona, Dianna of Texas and Danette (Dana) of Jonesboro; grandchildren, Jared Rhodes Ozols, Adriel (Austin) Heidland and Elliott Cross; one great grandson, Owen; other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his mom and dad and his stepmom Marie who raised him from age 7.

    Ernest grew up and lived in the Mississippi River bottoms until 1973 when he moved to the hills. He farmed his entire life while also working for the Union County Soil and Water Conservation District. He was a member of the Jonesboro First Baptist Church. Ernest was an avid reader and enjoyed antique cars and travelling.

    Funeral services for Ernest Rhodes will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 5, 2023 at Rendleman and Hileman Funeral Home in Jonesboro with Perry Williams and Bill Littrell officiating. Private interment will follow. Visitation will take place from 10:00 a.m. until the service time at 11:00 on Saturday, August 5, 2023 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the church of your choice or your local FFA chapter.
