Edward Gene Cates

    Edward Gene Cates, age 81 of Anna, died Tuesday, March 28, 2023 at Union County Hospital. He was born on May 16, 1941 in Cobden, the son of Charles Ford and Anna Elizabeth (Hubach) Cates. He married Carolyn Crowell on August 29, 1961. She preceded him in death on July 30, 2022.

    Ed is survived by three sons, Jeff (Kim) Cates of Cobden, Tracy Cates of Anna and Patrick (Laura) Cates of Cobden; two grandchildren, Jessica Cates (Bryan Todd), and Samantha Cates; two great-grandchildren, Jamie Ford and Creighton Todd; two brothers, Gaylon (Clara) Cates of Cobden and Homer Cates of Fayetteville, North Carolina; sister, Ginny (Charles) Stephenson of Marion; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by wife, Carolyn Cates, his parents, two sisters and four brothers.

    Ed was a carpet layer for many years. He was quite the storyteller. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and gardening. Most of all, he loved his family and spending time with his grandchildren.

    Funeral services for Edward Gene Cates will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, April 1, 2023 at Rendleman and Hileman Funeral Home in Anna with Rev. LaRue Parr and Pastor Bill Littrell officiating. Interment will follow in Casper Cemetery. Friends may call from 11:00 a.m. until the service hour at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, April 1, 2023 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
