Carla Sue (Ragan) Hileman

         Carla Sue Hileman, age 59 of Jonesboro, died Wednesday, October 4, 2023 surrounded by her loving family. She was born July 26, 1964 in Carbondale, the daughter of Robert Logan and Janet Rae (Pretzsch) Ragan. She married Joe Hileman on February 26, 1983 in Anna.

          Carla is survived by her loving husband, Joe Hileman of Jonesboro; children, Maddy (Clint) Walker of Carterville and J.R. (Lena Houston) Hileman of Jonesboro; parents, Robert and Janet Ragan of Jonesboro; siblings, twin sister, Marla (Todd) Williams of Anna, Tyler Ragan of Jonesboro, Chris Ragan of Anna and Margaret (Pat) Hite of Granite City; aunt, Nancy (Knute) Schultz of Wood River; niece and nephew, Chloe (Preston) Fore of Marion and Justice Hite of Granite City; brother in law, Gary (Debbie) Hileman and their children, Todd and Eric Hileman all of Grand Tower; other relatives and many friends.

          Carla was of the Christian faith, growing up in the Nazarene Church. She dedicated her life to her passion for social work. Early in her career she worked at SIU, later the State of Illinois with the Department of Children and Family Services as a Child Welfare Specialist. She transferred to Chester Mental Heath until her retirement. Carla was awarded Student Social Worker of the Year and had many accomplishments throughout her career. Carla loved traveling to Sanibel Island with her husband and children. She loved walking on the beach, enjoying sunsets and collecting shells. She liked dancing, caring for animals and a good book in her hand. Her generous and giving personality will be fondly remembered.

          Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, October 8, 2023 at the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Jonesboro with Ray Highfield officiating. Interment will be in the Jonesboro Cemetery. Friends may call after 12:00 noon and until the service hour at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, October 8, 2023 in the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Jonesboro. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of Southern Illinois. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
