Alice Edelman, age 87 of Anna, was born April 14, 1936 in Iron River, Michigan, the daughter of Arthur and Joy (Lace) Carlson. Her peaceful Heavenly Homecoming was November 10, 2023 while residing at The Voyage Assisted Living Center in Marion.
In 1957, Alice’s career in nursing brought her to Union County, where she faithfully cared for patients at the Anna State Hospital, now known as the Choate Mental Health Center. It was in Union County that she met and married Edward Meyer, who preceded her in death. Later, she married Dr. Jordan Edelman.
Prior to her declining health, Alice was active in the Anna-Jonesboro community, volunteering as American Red Cross Blood Drive coordinator for Union County. She was a dedicated member of First Evangelical Presbyterian Church of Anna. For a number of years, Alice served as FEPC’s church librarian, where her computer skills aided in converting the library’s cataloging system into the ‘digital age.’ She also sang in the church choir.
Alice’s crewel embroidery and knitting skills were extraordinary. Of special concern to her was the care of NICU babies, and she lovingly knitted and donated numerous items for “preemies” in area hospitals.
Alice is survived by her two brothers, Roy (Margie) Carlson of Plainwell, MI and Herb (Bonnie) Carlson of Seaford, VA; brother-in-law, Gary (Emily) Meyer of Cobden; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
Memorial services for Alice will be 1:00 p.m. Thursday, November 16, 2023 at the Rendleman and Hileman Funeral Home in Anna, with Jim Harris officiating. Friends and family may call from 12:00 p.m. noon until the service hour at 1:00 p.m. at the Rendleman and Hileman Funeral Home in Anna. Interment will be privately held in the Jonesboro Cemetery.
