Mrs. Winnifred "Granny" Neal, age 99, died at 7:37 a.m. Saturday, September 6, 2014 at her home in Makanda. She was born October 19, 1914 in West Frankfort, the daughter of John and Pearl Parker Opperkew. She married Jewell Parker in October of 1932 in Union County, to that union, one child was born, Shirley Parker Kerr. She later married Clarence Neal. Granny is survived by her daughter, Shirley Kerr of Makanda; grandchildren, Sheri (Ed) Houseman, Charlotte (Greg) Hoehner; eleven great grandchildren, Chris (Crystal) Houseman, Matt Houseman, Brandon Hoehner, Brian (Brandi) Hoehner, Henry Hoehner, Andrew, Kelsey, Breeanna, Shyann, Lucus, and Keith; four great-great grandchidlren, Matti Jo, Ryan, Eli, and Blakeley; other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands, Jewell Parker and Clarence Neal; and one sister, Selma Aden. Granny was a member of the United Missionary Baptist Church for many years. Graveside funeral services for Mrs. Winnifred "Granny" Neal will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 9, 2014 in the Anna City Cemetery with Pastor. Paul Tirey officiating. Interment will be in the Anna City Cemetery. Friends are asked to go directly to the cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois. Envelopes will be available at the cemetery and at Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home.
