Winford Odell Brown, age 93 of Jonesboro, died at 4:25 pm, Sunday, August 14, 2011 at the Illinois Veteran Home in Anna. He was born on May 17, 1918 in Dongola, the son of Howard and Mae (Sensmeier) Brown. Winford married Mildred Davis on November 19, 1944 and she preceded him in death on March 13, 1978. He then married Vivian Norton on August 31, 1979 and she preceded him in death on September 26, 2004. Winford was a member of the First Baptist Church in Jonesboro and he proudly served in the United States Army Air Corp during WWII. Survivors include a sister, Millie Brown of Jonesboro two nieces, Cindy Henley of Goreville and Charlotte (Bob) Abernathy of Griffin, IN; a step-daughter-in-law, Barbara Norton of Alto Pass; two step-grandchildren, Debbie Mauer and Dianne Mercurio; four step-great-grandchildren, other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his wives; his parents; a step-son, Jeff Norton and a sister, Hazel Sauerbrunn. Funeral services for Mr. Winford Brown will be conducted at 12:00 pm, Tuesday, August 16, 2011 at the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Jonesboro with the Rev. Joe Aldridge officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 10:00 am until the funeral hour at 12:00 pm. Interment will be in the Anna Cemetery with Military Rites conducted at the graveside by the Carroll P. Foster Post #3455 of Anna and the Illinois National Guard Funeral Honors Team of Marion. Memorial contributions may be made to the Illinois Veteran's Home Activity Fund or the First Baptist Church of Jonesboro and envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
