William Gerald Griffith, age 90 of Lick Creek, born January 6, 1935, was peacefully sent to his eternal home, Saturday, March 1, 2025 at Memorial Hospital in Carbondale. He was the son of William B. and Ruby (Stroud) Griffith.
William, who was also known as "Bill" or "Gerald", met Patsie Barringer at New Hope Baptist Church where they were later married on March 31, 1956. They moved to Peoria for employment and to begin a family of their own. Bill worked at interstate Bakery as a fleet mechanic before owning and operating G&H Carpet Service, a flooring installation business. After twenty years Bill returned to Southern Illinois to live on the Barringer family farm and continued to work at many flooring installation businesses before retirement. He was also a talented and skilled carpenter, building his own home after moving back to Lick Creek. He was very giving and spent a lot of time helping his family and friends with their construction needs as well. Those who worked with Bill knew him as an extremely hard-working and down-to-earth individual who displayed a lot of integrity.
Bill was a devout Christian. After returning to Lick Creek, he attended New Hope Baptist Church where he was a very active member. Bill's church family was very important to him, he was very grateful for all the acts of kindness he was shown as a member there.
Bill is survived by his loving wife of sixty-eight years, Patsie Griffith, daughters, Crystal (Tom) Kee, and Lorraine Griffith Perdue (Doug); brother-in-law, Stephen Smith. He will be cherished and remembered by his grandchildren, Amber Moreland, Aaron Martin (Amber), Bethany Haney (Chad); great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Sandra Lyerla (Wes); infant sister, brothers and sisters-in-law, Glenn and Glenna Griffith, Donald and Helen Griffith, and Wayne and Sareta Griffith; sisters and brother-in-law, Anna Lee and Fred Durbin and Mary Smith.
His legacy will carry on with his family reminding us of the importance of hard work, and that love for Christ and family are the most important things life has to offer.
