Willard Leon Mowell

Willard Leon Mowell, age 85 of Anna, passed away peacefully, Tuesday, May 21, 2024 at Memorial Hospital in Carbondale. He was born September 15, 1938 in Dongola, the son of William "Bill" and Zelma (Lentz) Mowell. He married Mamie Louise Williams on September 7, 1963 in Dongola.

Willard is survived by his loving wife of sixty years, Louise Mowell of Anna; five children, Marilyn and husband Stanley Elkins of Anna, Janet and husband Lonnie Graham of Anna, Darrell and wife Marie Mowell of Cobden, Terry and wife Mary Mowell of Dongola, Kimberly and husband Adam Foskey of Louisville, KY; eight grandchildren, Sarah Elkins, Jason and wife Jessica Elkins, Ashley and husband Caleb Ray, Katelyn Mowell, Taylor Mowell, Madison Mowell, Grace Mowell and Noah Foskey; one great grandson, Tucker Mowell; other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Austin Mowell and brother, Darrius Mowell.

Willard was a member of the United Missionary Baptist Church for many years. He retired from Union County Hospital, where he worked as a housekeeper in the Long-Term Care. He enjoyed visiting with the residents and enjoyed the time he worked there. At home, Willard could always be found working outside, piddling with his old tractor or tending to his garden.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 25, 2024 at the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Jonesboro with Rev. Paul Sadler officiating. Interment will be in the Anna Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday, May 24, 2024 at the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Jonesboro. Memorial contributions are preferred to the United Missionary Baptist Church or the American Diabetes Association. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
