Walter J. Menees

Walter J. Menees, age 92 of Anna, died Thursday, October 18, 2018 in the Illinois Veterans Home. He was born June 5, 1926 in Anna, the son of Ola Edgar and Margaret Lily (Shepard) Menees. He married Velma Ruth Parker on September 25, 1947 in Piggott, AR. She preceded him in death on January 13, 2007. Walter is survived by his daughter, Deanna (Carmen "Corkey") Romeo of Beaver, PA; son, Terry (Jodi) Menees of Tempe, AZ; three grandchildren, Shamain (Jae) Romeo-Hallett, Maria (Aaron) Browning and Nathaniel Walter Menees; four great grandchildren, Liam Hallett, Chiara Hallett, Karinna Browning, Dean Browning; other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Velma Ruth Menees; brother, Lloyd Perry Menees; sister, June Menees Meyer; brother, Malcolm Menees; sister, Juanita Menees Lynn. Walter proudly served his country in the United States Army during WWII. He worked as a manager at Kroger in Anna for thirty-four years before his retirement. After his retirement, he raised cattle and worked at preserving his family farm for future generations. Walter and Velma loved to travel and spend time outdoors. Walter was instrumental in helping build the addition at the First Christian Church in Anna at their original location. Funeral services for Walter J. Menees will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday, October 22, 2018 in the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home of Jonesboro with Steve Shepherd and Bill Littrell officiating. Interment will be in the Anna City Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by the Carroll P. Foster Post #3455 of the VFW of Anna and the Illinois Army National Guard Military Honor Team. Friends may call after 12:00 p.m. and until the service hour at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, October 22, 2018 in the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Jonesboro. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Christian Church in Anna or the Veterans Benefit Fund at the Illinois Veterans Home in Anna. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
