WALTER J. "BUTCH" KASZUBSKI Mr. Walter J. "Butch" Kaszubski, age 72 of Makanda, passed away in the early morning of Tuesday, June 6, 2017 surrounded by his family in Memorial Hospital in Carbondale after battling a long illness. He was born into a large Italian family in Chicago Heights on May 7, 1945 to Walter and Rose (Prisco) Kaszubski. He attended Bloom High School where he excelled in basketball. After high school he joined the Marines and served heroically in Vietnam. Upon returning from the war Butch married the love of his life, Marilyn "Jeanie" Elliott on August 12, 1972. Together they welcomed three children, Adam (Anne) Kaszubski, Sarah (Tom) Kilpatrick, and Paul (Shannon) Kaszubski. Together they lived with their children in the Chicago suburbs where Butch worked as an Illinois State Trooper, then Patrol to Commander of Investigations at Orland Park and finally as Chief of Police in New Lenox. Butch retired to Makanda where he enjoyed spending time with his wife, children and grand-children, Caleb, Emma, and Alivia "Lulu" Kilpatrick, Evaline, Finn, Arthur, Eden, Keela, Annaleigh and William Kaszubski. He is also survived by his brother, Richard (Lorri) Kaszubski; sister in law, Linda (Delbert) Dotson; nieces and nephews; and many friends. Butch will be dearly missed by all his family and friends and his church family at Connect Point in Anna. Butch was preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter, Delia Lee Kaszubski and niece, Michelle "Shelley" Dotson. Funeral services for Walter J. "Butch" Kaszubski will be in the Chicago area. Interment will be in the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Wounded Warrior Project. Envelopes will be available the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Anna.
