Vurline Brasel

Mrs. Wilma Vurline Brasel, 88, passed away Tuesday, April 7, 2015 at the Union County Hospital Long Term Care after a brief battle with cancer. Vurline was born on Christmas Eve, December 24, 1926 to William and Lanie (Smith) Clayton. Vurline started working at age 16 for Florsheim Shoe Factory and quit after 10 years to become a stay-at-home mother and homemaker. She married Lloyd Brasel in 1953 and they were married almost 60 years when he preceded her in death in April 2013. Vurline is survived by her two daughters, Evelyn Brasel of Jonesboro, and Carla (Jeff) Chatham of Cobden. Other survivors include brother Beryl (Ruthe) Clayton of Anna; and sisters Pansy (John William) Jackson of Anna, Betty Jo Raney of Carbondale, and Freida (Charles) Brasel of Ft. Worth, Texas; many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; two siblings who died in infancy, and her husband. Vurline enjoyed gardening, sewing, preserving fruits and vegetables and reading. She was a loyal and faithful member of the Bethel Baptist Church where she enjoyed attending services regularly. The family would like to extend a special thanks for the outstanding staff at Chamness Care, Union County Hospital Long Term Care and Celtic Hospice for guiding us through some difficult times and transitions. Funeral services for Mrs. Wilma Vurline Brasel will be at 1:00 p.m. Friday, April 10, 2015 in the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Cobden with Rev. Terry Kern officiating. Interment will be in the Cobden Cemetery. Friends may call after 11:00 a.m. and until the service hour at 1:00 p.m. in the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Cobden. Flowers are welcome, but in lieu of flowers donations may be made to Bethel Baptist Church, Kelley Cemetery, or Celtic Hospice & Home Health.
