Virginia Ruth (Hammond ) Housman, age 96 passed on Tuesday, October 5, 2021. She was born on January 20,1925 in Appleton Wisconsin the daughter of Nile and Charlotte Ruth Hammond, sister to Lucille Irene Alme and brother to Nile Spencer Hammond. She married Robert Franklin Housman in Brainerd, Minnesota on January 30, 1948. She moved to Jonesboro, Illinois in 1950 where she lived for the remainder of her life. Bob Housman died April 14,2008. Virginia was an active business owner, farmer, and Vintner, in addition to being the longest active member of the Anna-Jo Garden Club and member of Mount Moriah Lutheran Church . Virginia was the loving matriarch of a large extended family , mother of five children, Robert L (Pete) Housman, Debra Kay Rees (Gary) , Cheryl Ann Peckron (Jeff). Mary Kathryn Wood (Paul), & Jon Wayne Housman (Crystal). GrandMother to Jackson Snyder, Laura Snyder, Emily Hubert (Chris) , Alexander Peckron (Julie) , Adam Peckron, Caleb Wood (Abigail), Megan Hall (Josh) , Christian Wood, Sarah Jerrells (Blake), Jacob Wood, Erin Gunther (Hayden), Noah Wood, Mackenzie Peck (Shane) Madison Housman, Ryan Rich, Ian Rich (Allison). Great-GrandMother to Quinn & Wyatt Hubert, Genesis Peckron, Oliver, Reagan & Jane Wood, Elizabeth (Lizzie) & Fitz Hall, Ella Jerrells and Baylor Peck. A life is not measured in days or months, or years or miles traveled or money earned or spent. It is measured by the hugs gotten and given, the hearts held, the lives touched and changed along the way. Virginia Housman took a chance on loving every day of her life and the well-lit road she traveled led her home. A Memorial for Virginia will take place at Mt. Moriah Lutheran Church on Friday, October 22nd at 11:00a.m. with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. Memorial Donations can be made to the Shawnee Hills Arts Council/Anna Arts Center, Anna-Jo Garden Club Community Beautification Fund, or the Food Pantry Ministries at Mount Moriah Lutheran Church, Salem Lutheran Church, United Methodist Church of Anna. Envelopes will be available at the church and the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home.
