Vicki Joyce Rushing

Vickie J. Rushing, age 61 of Carbondale, died at 1:49 pm, Monday August 6, 2012 at the Memorial Hospital of Carbondale. Vickie was born on March 22, 1951 in Anna, the daughter of Roy Laverne Turner and Mary (Rushing) Riley. Vickie is survived by five children, James Paul (Lindsey) Rutledge of Carbondale, Roy Glenn Rutledge of Denver, CO, Shawn J. (Karen) Rutledge of Denver, CO, Adrian Powers of Carbondale, and Jacob Rutledge of Carbondale; her mother, Mary Rushing Riley of Anna; two grandsons, Devin and Ryan Rutledge, both of Denver, CO; two brothers, Leon Frick of Anna and Michael (Melinda) Riley of Webb City, MO; two sisters, Mary Alice Arnaud (Jason Watterson) of Anna and Linda (Wayne) Roseborough of Carbondale; a niece Breanna Roseborough of Carbondale; special friends, Ken Penna of Springfield, MO, Barbara McConville of DuQuoin, Cheryl Bell of Murphysboro, Denver and Devin Powers of Carbondale; many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and many friends. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Stella Michelle Rutledge on May 23, 2011 and her father. Vickie graduated from Century High School in Ullin, IL in 1969. After graduation she joined the Peace Corp. and moved to Texas. She later married and had four beautiful children. Vickie returned to Southern Illinois in the mid 80's and made her home in Carbondale. She had health issues for many years and most recently was diagnosed in June of 2012 with cancer. Vickie vowed to "fight this cancer and to never give up." Vickie will be sadly missed by her family and friends. In honor of Vickie's wishes of cremation, a memorial service will be held Monday, August 13, 2012 at 11:00am, at the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Jonesboro with the Rev. Bill Carter officiating. Friends may call from 10:00 am until the funeral hour at 11:00 am on Monday, August 13. In lieu of flowers, a fund has been established for Vickie's grandson, Jacob Rutledge, age 13, who Vickie adopted as her own son after the death of his mother in 2011.
