Vicki Marlene Lyerla, 59, of Cobden, died July 5th, 2011 at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis in the presence of her family.Vicki was born August 30, 1951 in Nuremberg, Germany to John Bernard Vitt, Sr. and Audrey Ann (Flamm) Vitt. Upon his retirement from the Army the family returned to their parent's hometown of Cobden, IL. She is a 1969 graduate of Cobden High School and received her beautician's license from the Cape Girardeau School of Cosmetology.Vicki dedicated herself as a sister, wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She worked for several years as a receptionist at the Transcraft Corporation in Anna, IL. In her free time Vicki enjoyed writing and crocheting, showcasing her talent through participation in the Union County Writer's Guild and the Cobden Farmer's Market. With her friend Susan Stokes of Anna, she began Rags n' Bags, as a way to sell their crafts at area markets.She was a long-time member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Cobden, where she sang in the choir for many years and served on the parish council.Vicki is survived by Curt, her husband of 38 years; two sons, Leland (Nancy) of Bells, TN and Lucas of Cobden; a daughter, Carrie (Carroll) of Cobden; four grand-daughters, Josie, Madison, Tori and Gracyn and a grandson, Noah; her step-mother, Mary Vitt of Carterville; two sisters, Nancy Macdonald (Laird) of Bloomington, IL , Karen Winzenburger (John) of Cobden and a brother, John Vitt (the late Susan) of Cobden. She was preceded in death by her parents.Funeral services for Mrs. Vicki Lyerla will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, July 8, 2011 at the St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Cobden with Father Federico Higuera and Uriel Salamanca officiating. Interment will be in the Alto Pass Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 7, 2011 at the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Cobden. Rosary service will be held at 8:00 p.m. Thursday.The family requests memorials to be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital in Memphis, TN, envelopes will be provided at the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home.
