Vernita Miller, age 82 of Alto Pass, passed away Friday, March 1, 2024 at her home. She was born December 3, 1941 in Wolf Lake, the daughter of George and Freda (Wilson) Pitts. On January 1, 1998, she married Wendall Ray Miller. He preceded her in death on September 6, 2021.
Vernita was a member of the Alto Pass First Baptist Church. She loved helping others, often driving her friends to appointments or to run errands.
She is survived by her step-son, Wade (Patty) Miller of Chester; step-grandchildren, Cassidy Miller (Jacob Wilkins) of St. Louis and Courtney (Eric) Evans of Steelville; step-great grandchild, Grace Evans; brothers, Fred (Barbara) Pitts of Lick Creek and Wayne (Judy) Pitts of Wolf Lake; sister, Carleen Cain of Tuscola; nieces and nephews, Gena (Wendell) Davis, Sandra Kay Clutts, Ron Pitts and wife, Bruce Pitts and wife, Kent (Nancy) Pitts, Wes (Melanie) Pitts, and Teresa (Tony) Guy; other relatives, and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Wendall Miller, and brother-in-law, Ivan Rhodes.
Funeral services for Vernita will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday, March 7, 2024 at the Rendleman and Hileman Funeral Home in Jonesboro, with Rev. Carroll Toler officiating. Interment will follow in the Ebenezer Hall Cemetery in Lick Creek. Friends and family may call from 11:00 a.m. until the service hour at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, March 7 at the Rendleman and Hileman Funeral Home in Jonesboro. Memorial contributions can be made to P.A.W.S or the Alto Pass Fire Department. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
