Mrs. Verna Maxine Hickam, age 96 of Murphysboro, died at 4:39 a.m. Sunday, January 11, 2015 in the Big Muddy Assisted Living in Murphysboro. She was born November 12, 1918 in Pomona, the daughter of Harry and Edna Smith Noble. She married Glenn A. Hickam on July 1, 1939 in Jackson, MO. He preceded her in death on April 12, 2014. Maxine is survived by her three sons, Jerry A. (Charlotte) Hickam, Reginald F. (Mary Lou) Hickam, Edwin D. (Pamela) Hickam; former daughter in law, Nancy Hickam; six grandchildren, Scott A. Hickam, Charles D. Hickam, Brockton Hickam, Amy J. (Hickam) Waltz, Erin L. (Hickam) Hall, and Matthew T. Hickam; eleven great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; nephew, Kendal R. Fuller; niece, Donna (Noble) Willis;; other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Glenn A. Hickam; brother, James Riley Noble; and one sister, Hazel Pauline (Noble) Fuller. Maxine was a member of the Mt. Pleasant Jerusalem Christian Church in Pomona. She will be remembered as a great mother, cook, hostess and friend. She retired as a cook from the Murphysboro School District #186. Funeral services for Mrs. Verna Maxine Hickam will be at 12:00 noon on Thursday, January 15, 2015 in the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Anna with Rev. Charles Allen officiating. Interment will be in the Murdale Gardens of Memory. Friends may call from 5 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 14, 2015 in the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Anna.
