Mr. Troy E. Glasco, age 93 of rural Cobden, died at 8:13 a.m. Thursday, July 13, 2017 in the Shawnee Christian Nursing Center in Herrin. He was born June 23 1924 in Union County, the son of Lowell and Rosa Mae (Leggans) Glasco. He married Bobbie Foster on June 10, 1945 in Carbondale. Troy is survived by his loving wife of seventy two years, Bobbie Glasco of rural Cobden; two daughters, Gloria (Al) Williams of rural Cobden, Marilyn (Mike) Ferguson of Robinson; son, Larry (Judy) Glasco of Metropolis; eleven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; sister, Wilma Thetford of rural Cobden; sister-in-law, Stella Glasco of rural Cobden; brother-in-law, Bill Tweedy of rural Cobden; sister-in-law Jeanette Coleman of St. Louis, MO; step-sisters, Betty (Loren) Eskew and Vertis Ray of Manteno; step-brother, Laurel "Bud" Williams of Athens, ME; other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Roy and Paulie Glasco; sisters, Charlene Givens and Patsy Tweedy; step-sisters, Mary Highland and Emily McFarland; one grandson; and one son-in-law, Gary Cox. Troy proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII from 1941 to 1945. After discharge from the Navy in late 1945, he lived in Carbondale area until 1951. He moved to a farm in the Water Valley area of rural Union County. Troy retired from SIU-C Grounds Dept in 1982 and worked on his farm most of his life. Troy was a member and deacon of the United Missionary Baptist Church for many years. A Celebration of Life for Mr. Troy E. Glasco will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, July 17, 2017 in the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Cobden with Paul Tirey and Ken Wilson officiating. Interment will be in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Murphysboro. Graveside military rites will be conducted by the Murphysboro American Legion Post 127. Friends may call from 5 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday, July 16, 2017 in the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Cobden. Memorial contributions may be made to the United Missionary Baptist Church. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
