Thomas Herloph Sather

Thomas H. Sather, age 77 of Cobden, died Wednesday, February 6, 2019 at his home. He was born December 29, 1941 in Chester, PA, the son of Herloph Ingvaald and Clara Marie (Mayer) Sather. He married his best friend, Ginger Whiting on September 4, 1965 in Carbondale. Thomas is survived by his loving wife, Ginger Sather of Cobden; son, Erik (Penny) Sather of Houston, TX; granddaughter, Molly Sather of Houston, TX; brothers, Ronald (Barb) Sather of McAlester, OK, and Norman (Fran) Hartman of Palm Coast, FL; sister in law, Sharon Satterlee of Rockford, numerous nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents. Thomas attended Salem Lutheran Church in Jonesboro. He honorably served his country in the United States Navy from 1960 to 1966 during the Vietnam War. He attained degrees from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, Miami University in Oxford, OH and Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, IA. Thomas was a teacher; he also owned his own Chiropractic Practice in Washington; was a skilled Woodworker; and always an extremely gifted artist. Thomas was a member of the Cobden Lodge No. 446 AF & AM for over fifty years as well as several other Masonic affiliations. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday, February 8, 2019 at the Salem Lutheran Church in Jonesboro with Pastor Mark Hasty officiating. Interment will be in the Anna City Cemetery. Graveside military rites will be conducted by the Carroll P. Foster Post #3455 of the V.F.W. in Anna and the Navy Funeral Honor Detail. Friends may call after 1:00 p.m. and until the service hour at 2:00 p.m. at the Salem Lutheran Church in Jonesboro. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are asked to be made to Salem Lutheran Church or the donor's choice. Envelopes will be available at the church and the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home.
