Thelma Jean Harvel

Mrs. Thelma Jean Harvel age 89 of Marion, formerly of Jonesboro, died at 6:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 22, 2015, in the Hurricane Creek Assisted Living in Herrin. She was born February 6, 1926 in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, the daughter of Arthur and Lora Haney Garrison. She married Dempsey Harry Harvel on September 27, 1941 in Jackson, Missouri. He preceded her in death on November 18, 1988. Thelma is survived by her two daughters, Charlotte Carter of Austin, Texas, and Carolyn (John) Bavender of Marion; six grandchildren, Angela Rich, Scott Rich, Jennifer Kristoff, Gwen Kelley, Chris Bavender and Michael Bavender; eleven great-grandchildren; her beloved dog and companion, Maddie; other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Dempsey Harry Harvel; one daughter, Diane Harvel Kelley; and five sisters. Thelma was a member of the First Baptist Church in Jonesboro and was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the V.F.W. in Anna. She was retired from Choate Mental Health after eighteen years in the Dietary Department. Funeral services for Mrs. Thelma Jean Harvel will be at 12:00 noon on Friday, July 24, 2015 in the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Anna. Interment will be in the St. John's Cemetery in Dongola. Friends may call after 11:00 a.m. and until the service hour at 12:00 noon on Friday, July 24, 2015 in the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Anna. Memorial contributions may be made to P.A.W.S.
