Mrs. Sue Brimm, age 76 of Springfield, formerly of Cobden, passed away Friday, May 20, 2016 at her home. Sue was born March 7, 1940 in Anna to Louie and Mildred (Mallender) Lockard of Cobden IL. She married Gene Brimm on November 1, 1958 in St Louis Mo. She is survived by her husband, son Allen (Terri) of Wimberley TX.; four grandchildren, Hannah and Haleigh Black of Chatham, Ben and Rachael Brimm of Wimberley TX.; sister Kathy (Dennis) Thornburg of Anna; several nieces and nephews; son in law, Reggie Black of Chatham; other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter Laura Black; and older sister Betty McIntire. Sue was devoted to her family and a friend to many. She was a member of the Douglas Avenue United Methodist Church for many years. Sue was someone who never met a stranger. She was always interested in knowing and caring about people she met. She was a stay at home mom until starting to work for H & R Block. When her husband retired from the State of Illinois in 1988, she determined they were too young to quit working and then started her own Tax and Accounting business. After 21 years they sold a successful business and officially retired. Sue was always finding ways to help others through volunteering with PTA, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts and her church. She was one of the first women to be recognized with the Silver Beaver, the highest award for a volunteer of a Boy Scout Council. She was an Enrolled Agent and a member of the NATP. Graveside services for Mrs. Sue Brimm will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 27, 2016 in the Cobden Cemetery. Friends are asked to go directly to the cemetery. Interment will be in the Cobden Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Douglas Avenue United Methodist Church. Envelopes will be available at the cemetery and the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home or mailed directly to the church at 501 South Douglas Ave. Springfield, IL. 62704.
