Mrs. Shirley Mae West Williams 71 of Lick Creek formerly of Cobden, died at 11 a.m. on December 4th, 2015 (on her mother's birthday) at Carbondale Memorial Hospital with her family by her side. She was born on January 10, 1944 in Maynard, Arkansas to Larkin and Mildred West and Jack Young. Shirley married Carl "Vernell" Williams of Cobden in 1959. Together they had three daughters Kathy, Ruth Ann, and Leah. Shirley is survived by her companion, Floyd Tellor of Lick Creek, her beloved dog, Scooter; daughter Kathy Pennington of Carbondale; Four grandchildren, Zeke Pennington of St. Louis, Mo., Elisse Pennington of California, Ember Pennington of Carbondale, and Justin Hunt of Texas. Six great-grandchildren; her father, Jack Young of Tennessee; sisters and brothers, Ruthene Wood of Anna, Gilbert (Ayn) West of Anna, Peggy (Jim) Rains of Alto Pass, Brenda Kelley of Anna, Jack Jr. (Lillian) Young of Tennessee, Donnie (Kathy) Young of Tennessee, Jane (Winfred)Smith of Tennessee and Bobby Young of Tennessee; nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends.She was preceded in death by her mother and daddy, Mildred (Lambert) and Larkin West; her husband Vernell Williams in October 1996 and her daughters Ruth Ann Williams-Mead and Alma Leah Williams. Shirley was of the Baptist faith.She worked for 23 years as a customer service manager for Wal-Mart in Anna, Marion and Carbondale. She enjoyed traveling, shopping and spending time with her family and friends. She had hundreds of friends on Facebook that she never met but she chatted with everyday. She never forgot a name or a face. Services for Shirley Mae Williams will be at 1:00 p.m. Monday, December 7, 2015 in the Alto Pass Cemetery, with pastor Paul Tirey officiating. Interment will follow. Friends are asked to go directly to the cemetery.
