Mrs. Shirley Powles, age 82 of Jonesboro, died Friday, December 26, 2014 in Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri. She was born March 26, 1932 in Dongola, the daughter of Herman and Mary E. Karraker Penninger. She married Corlis R. "Cotton" Powles on March 5, 1949 in Oceola, Arkansas. He preceded her in death on November 4, 2004. Shirley is survived by her sister, Kay (David) Rothchild; one brother, Rodney Clements; nieces and nephews, Mike Harvel, Beth Harvel, Kim Collins, Mary Rothchild Adams, Scott Rothchild and families, Marita Weaver, Randall, Roy and Joe Hogue and families; other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Corlis R. "Cotton" Powles; brothers, Bill and Bob Penninger; sister, June Harvel; two nephews, Brad Penninger and Colter Frey. Shirley was a member of the First Christian Church in Anna. She was retired from Choate Mental Health as a Social Worker. Shirley was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Anna Chapter #522. Funeral services for Mrs. Shirley Powles will be at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, December 30, 2014 in the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Jonesboro with Bill Littrell officiating. Interment will be in the Anna City Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 7:00 p.m. Monday, December 29, 2014 in the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Jonesboro. The Eastern Star service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Christian Church in Anna, the St. John's Cemetery or the Eastern Star Scholarship Fund. Envelopes will be available in the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Jonesboro.
