Shirley Basler

Shirley Basler, age 79 of Cobden, died Wednesday, November 14, 2018 at Memorial Hospital in Carbondale. She was born February 24, 1939 in Anna, the daughter of James and Stella Ruth (Claxton) Campbell. She married Roy "Sonny" Basler Jr. in December of 1962 in Cobden at the St. Joseph Catholic Church. Shirley is survived by her husband of almost 56 years, Roy "Sonny" Basler of Cobden; daughter, Pam (James) Barr of Cobden; son, Todd Basler and friend Susan of Anna; four grandchildren, Adam and Ryan Barr, Clayton and Kaylee Basler; brother, Donald (Toni) Campbell of Cobden; sister, Judy (Jerry) Smith of Lebanon; other relatives and many friends. Shirley graduated from Cobden in the class of 1957. She attended beauty school and worked as a beautician for several years. She later worked at Rural Health for 18 years before retiring. Shirley touched many people with her smile and helpfulness. She was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Cobden and the Daughters of American Revolution. Shirley and Sonny loved to travel and go camping together. She will be dearly missed by everyone who knew her. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, November 19, 2018 in the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Cobden with Father Uriel Salamanca officiating. Interment will be in the St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday, November 18, 2018 in the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Cobden. Prayer services will be at 7:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
