Sheila Lucille Sappington born into Grace on December 26, 1963 and was Welcomed into Glory on Saturday, June 14, 2025. With hearts full of sorrow, yet touched by the joy of knowing her, we say farewell — for now — to our beloved Sheila Sappington, a woman whose life was a living prayer, a song of love, and a testament to unwavering faith.
From her first breath, Sheila was devoted to the Lord. With every step she walked and every word she spoke, she shone His light. Her voice was often lifted in worship, singing not for show, but from a soul deeply rooted in grace. Her melody wasn't just in song, but in how she lived — each act of kindness, each whispered prayer, each embrace of love was a verse in her life's hymn.
Sheila loved fiercely and fully. Her heart belonged to her family — her children and grandchildren, her truest treasures. In her eyes, they were stars in her heaven on earth. She wrapped them in a love that never wavered, never wore out, never let go. Her prayers built a hedge around them, her laughter lit up every room they entered.
To all who knew her, Sheila was more than family or friend — she was a warrior of the Word, a joyful witness, a hand that is held out to the weary. She would share Jesus with anyone who would listen, not from obligation, but from overflowing joy. To be in her presence was to feel the nearness of God.
Sheila's family was her circle — unbreakable, unwavering, eternal. The ties that bound them were woven with love, sealed with prayer, and strengthened by her ceaseless devotion. That circle will never be broken, because she remains a part of it in memory, in spirit, and in the love she taught us to carry forward.
Left to mourn her passing are her two daughters, Toni Sappington of Kevil, KY and Sara Rushing of Anna; grandchildren, Warren and Lilah Seaton and on the way, baby Brisan Egner; siblings, Cathy Marie (Ron) Taylor of Dongola, Mike (Michelle) Smith of Morley, MO, David (Patricia) Smith of Scott City, MO, and April (Jerry) Farris of Jonesboro; many nieces and nephews; other extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by her father, Tonie V. Smith; mother, Marcella Marie Buttry; and husband, Grady "Gus" Sappington.
Though our hearts are heavy, we know where she is — dancing with her Savior, reunited with her husband, whom she was missing dearly, and her beloved mom, and dad, keeping watch with eager eyes. She's got a head start, just waiting now for her brothers and sisters and the rest of her family to join the song that never ends.
So we won't say goodbye, not really. We'll sing her song, we'll love like she loved, and we'll carry on. Because Sheila Sappington didn't just live, she loved, and in doing so, she lives on.
"Well done, good and faithful servant… Enter into the joy of your Lord."
