Ruth Shadowens

Ruth Shadowens, age 83 of Cobden, Illinois passed away on Monday, August 3, 2020. She was born October 6, 1936 the daughter of Albert and Helen (Walden) Nance in Thebes, Illinois both predeceased Ruth. She was one of five sisters: Bonnie Throgmorton, Frances (Sissy) Pearson, Dorris Nossett, and Phyllis Howell and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by Bonnie. Ruth graduated in May of 1954 from Carbondale High School- she also married in 1954 and had three sons. She is survived by her youngest son Terry Lee (Dee) Shadowens and grandchildren; Cody, Alexandra, and Zachariah and great grandson Xachariah Kaleb. Ruth was predeceased by sons Jack and Randy Shadowens. She is survived by daughter in law, Sheila Yates; grandsons, Bronson and Brandon Shadowens; great grandson, Logan; great granddaughters, Katelyn and Kinnley. Ruth loved spending time with family, especially with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She also enjoyed horseback riding, watching westerns, and reading historical romances. Ruth retired from Ensign Bickford in Wolf Lake, Illinois. She previously worked at Tuck Tape in Carbondale, Illinois. If she were able to turn back time a bit and give some advice, it may be the following quote from one of the most famous western actors. "Tomorrow is the most important thing in life. Comes into us at midnight very clean. It's perfect when it arrives and it puts itself in our hands. It hopes we've learned something from yesterday. " -John Wayne Ruth's quick smile and laugh will lovingly be missed by many. Graveside Funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday, August 7, 2020 at Cobden Cemetery. Everyone attending will be required to observe social distancing guidelines.
