Mr. Roy Raymond "Cotton" Hartline, age 104, died peacefully at 2:30 a.m. Friday, March 27, 2015 in the Illinois Veteran's Home in Anna. He was born on January 28, 1911 in Mt. Glen, the son of Julious and Ethel Lasley Hartline. Cotton lived in Union County all his life, except for his service in the Navy during WWII. He married Wanda Elizabeth Penrod on July 5, 1932. She preceded him in death on December 3, 1969. Later he also married Eileen Grace Roberts and Valda "Vot" Casey, both of whom preceded him in death. Cotton is survived by his daughter, Erma Choate of Nashville, TN; granddaughter, Julie (Jim) Moore of Maryville, TN; great-grandsons, Jimmy (Ame) Moore and their children, Perry and Devon of Lenoir City, TN, and Mark (Jenny) Moore and their children, Noah and Elsa of Maryville, TN; nephews and nieces, Earl Keith Osterhoff, Randy (Donna) Speck, Jackie (Jim) Giffin and Vickie (Chancey) Hickman; special friends, Linda (Dave) Allen and Debbie Wenger. He was preceded in death by his parents; three wives, one brother, Junior Hartline; and six sisters, Dorotha Brussels, Cecile Penrod, Agnes Speck, Opal Kelley, Wanda White and Violet Ferguson. Cotton trusted Jesus Christ as his Savior on March 14, 1987 and joined the First Baptist Church in Anna on April 5, 1987. God used Bus and Ollie Eudy to help lead Cotton to saving faith in Jesus. Cotton was a Veteran of the Navy in WWII, where he served in the South Pacific on Espiritu Santo, Guadalcanal and Guam as part of Aircraft Repair Unit #245. He was a lifetime member of the Carroll P. Foster Post #3455 of the V.F.W. and also helped organize the Labor Union in Southern Illinois. He was also a member of the Carpenters Union since 1946 and made his occupation as a carpenter and home builder. He loved to fish and had a God-given green thumb. The family would like to sincerely thank all of the staff and nurses at the Illinois Veteran's Home of Anna. Their love, care and helpfulness for eight years have meant more that they can know. Funeral services for Mr. Roy Raymond "Cotton" Hartline will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, March 29, 2015 in the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Anna with Rev. Les Sinks officiating. Interment will be in the Anna City Cemetery. Graveside military rites will be conducted by the Carroll P. Foster Post #3455 of the V.F.W. in Anna and the Navy Funeral Honors Team. Friends may call after 1:00 p.m. and until the service hour at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 29, 2015 in the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Anna. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Anna First Baptist Church or the Carroll P. Foster Post #3455 of the V.F.W. in Anna.
