Roger Kent Jones

Roger Kent Jones, age 70 of Jonesboro, died Thursday, January 10, 2019 at his home. He was born March 10, 1948 in Anna, the son of James Kent and Evelyn Marie (Jones) Jones. He was a graduate of the AJ Class of 1966. He married the love of his life, Sharon Kay Morgan on July 15, 1967 in Anna. Roger is survived by his wife, Sharon Jones of Jonesboro; one son, Shane (Sara) Jones of Jonesboro; two grandchildren, Wyatt and Heidi Jones; mother, Evelyn Marie Cox of Anna; brother, Dale Jones of Anna; step-sister, Cheryl Rhine; other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his father; and two brothers. Johnnie Ray Jones and Timothy Gene Jones. Roger was a member of the West End Church of Christ in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. He worked for Bunny Bread in maintenance for many years. He then worked for Crown Line Boat in West Frankfort until his retirement. Roger was an avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and traveling with his wife Sharon. Together they traveled to 49 states, Mexico and Canada. Roger dearly loved spending time with his family, he will be missed by everyone who knew him. Roger served his country in the United States Army from 1968 to 1970. He was a member of the American Legion, Massac County Gun Club, Anglers Choice and the Southern Illinois Bass Club. Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Monday, January 14, 2019 in the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Jonesboro with Brother Phil Jones officiating. Interment will be in the Anna Cemetery. Graveside military rites will be conducted by the Carroll P. Foster Post #3455 of the V.F.W. in Anna and the Illinois Army National Guard Funeral Honor Team of Marion. Friends may call after 10:00 a.m. and until the service hour at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, Janaury 14, 2019 in the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Jonesboro. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
