Robert "Bob" Gaylon Woolridge

Robert "Bob" Gaylon Woolridge, age 81 of Jonesboro, passed away at 9:48 p.m. Saturday, June 20, 2015 in the Union County Hospital in Anna. He was born on April 24, 1934 in Jonesboro, the son of Robert L. and Catherine Maebell (Spurlock) Woolridge. Bob married Juanita Kathleen Smith on July 27, 1951 and together they shared sixty-four years. Bob is survived by his loving wife, Kathleen Woolridge of Jonesboro; daughter and son-in-law, Deborah (Kent) Howerton of Mt. Pleasant; son and daughter-in-law, Donald (Stacy) Woolridge of West Frankfort; and daughter, Catherine Upchurch of Jonesboro; grandchildren, Stefanie (Joel) Diers of Springfield, Robert "Robbie" (Jennifer) Woolridge of Carbondale, Gaylon Simmons, R.J. Simmons and Ashley Upchurch all of Jonesboro; great-grandchildren, Aliyah and Mason Diers of Springfield and Holden Woolridge of Carbondale. Bob was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Ronald Woolridge; and one brother, Earl Woolridge. Bob was of the Baptist faith and was a proud member of IBEW, Union Local 702. He worked as a tree trimmer from 1965 until his retirement in 1997. He enjoyed a long retirement filled with gardening and spending time with his grandchildren. His family, many friends and his dog, Zsa Zsa will miss him greatly. Bob was a kind soul and a true working class hero. He also had broad shoulders and a big heart. He was Union to the bone. Througheighty-one years he always kept the heart and smile of a little boy. The family feels that some losses are beyond measure. Memorial services for Robert "Bob" Gaylon Woolridge will be at 11:00 am on Thursday, June 25, 2015 at the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Jonesboro with Rev. Paul Sadler officiating. Interment will be in the Jonesboro Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 until 8:00 pm on Wednesday, June 24, 2015 at the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Jonesboro. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association. Memorial envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
