Mr. Richard Kenneth Stephens, age 85, of Cary, North Carolina, formerly of Anna and Marion, died November 30, 2011. He was born November 2, 1926 in Anna, the son of Elmer and Elsie Mattheis Stephens. Richard is survived by his wife, of 64 years, Martha Day Stephens of Cary North Carolina; daughters, Jan Stephens, Nancy Barney and Anna Lea Stephens all of Cary, North Carolina; grandchildren, Stacy (Jeff) Ward of Wilmington, North Carolina, Jody (Thomas) Swing of Greenville, North Carolina, Richard (Elizabeth) Rogers of Clinton, North Carolina, Blake Hussion of Raleigh, North Carolina; great grandchildren, Carly, Avery and Emmitt Ward, Sarah Swing, and new baby on the way, Davis and Lilly Kate Rogers; sister, Mary Lou Swift of Decatur, Illinois; other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; infant son, Richard Stephens; one brother, Eugene; and one sister, Martha Sue. Richard proudly served his country in the US Navy during WWII as an Aviation Radioman. He retired from CP & L in 1991 after a career in the power plant construction industry. After retirement he enjoyed much of his time in Vero Beach, Florida. Graveside memorial services will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 7, 2012 at the Anna City Cemetery with Richard Day officiating. Military rites will be conducted at the graveside by the Carroll P. Foster Post #3455 of the V.F.W. in Anna and the Military Funeral Honors Team in Marion. Interment will be in the Anna City Cemetery. Friends are asked to go directly to the cemetery.
