Richard J. Cerny

Richard J. Cerny, age 86 of Cobden, died at 6:10 p.m. Wednesday, May 30, 2018 at his home. He was born February 2, 1932 in Cobden the son of John M. and Elizabeth (Bigler) Cerny. He married Jo Gotta on May 14, 1966 in Centralia. Richard is survived by his loving wife, Jo Cerny of Cobden; daughters, Tina (Steve) Pedrotty of Hunt Valley, MD, Teresa (Rich) Koenig of Pullman, WA; son, Eric (Liesa) Cerny of Chesterfiled, MO; grandchildren, Madison Pedrotty, Dominic Pedrotty, Nicholas Koenig, Maria Cerny, Kate Cerny and Sarah Cerny; sisters, Catherine (Norman) Gibbs of Cobden and Dorothy Zinn of Breese. He is preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Lawrence, Norbert and Hugh Cerny. Richard was a man of faith who was devoted to his family. He was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Cobden. He had a passion for farming, dedicating his life to the family farm on which he was born. He felt fortunate that he could spread his love for agriculture through growing plants for local farmers until a few days before his death. Richard proudly served his country in the United States Army. Funeral Mass for Richard J. Cerny will be at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 2, 2018 in the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Cobden with Monsignor David Darin officiating. Interment will be in the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. Graveside military rites will be conducted by the Carroll P. Foster Post #3455 of the V.F.W. in Anna and the Illinois Army National Guard Funeral Honor Team of Marion. Visitation will be on Friday, June 1, 2018 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Cobden. Memorial contributions are asked to be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois or St. Joseph Catholic Church. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
