Mr. Reuben T. Hawkins, age 84 of Cobden, died at 7:42 a.m. Thursday, June 9, 2016 in the Memorial Hospital in Carbondale. He was born March 1, 1932 in Johnson County, the son of Walter U. and Grace (Keener) Hawkins. He married Ella Jean Hooper on September 14, 1968 in Morganfield, KY. Reuben is survived by his loving wife, Jeanne Hawkins of Cobden; one son, Reuben Andy (Jennifer) Hawkins of Cobden; three grandchildren, Mike, A.J. and Grace Hawkins; one sister, Mary Camden of Anna; two aunts, Ellen Walters of Bushnell, IL and Clara Keener of Prairie City, IL.; eight nieces and nephews; nineteen great nieces and nephews; thirty-eight great-great nieces and nephews; and five great-great-great-nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Ernest Hawkins and one sister Elsie Bethards. Reuben attended Limestone Baptist Church in Cobden. He retired from Rend Lake Community College where he worked many years as an instructor. He served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. Reuben was a member of the American Legion, and a member of the Operating Engineers Local #318. Funeral services for Mr. Reuben T. Hawkins will be at 1:00 p.m. Monday, June 13, 2016 in the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Cobden with Bob Dover and Rev. Jerry King officiating. Interment will be in the Alto Pass Cemetery. Graveside military rites will be conducted by the Carroll P. Foster Post #3455 of the V.F.W. in Anna and the Scott Air Force Base Honor Guard Military Funeral Honor Team. Friends may call from 5 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday June 12, 2016 in the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Cobden. Preferred memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society or the Bald Knob Cross of Peace. Envelopes will be available in the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Cobden.
