Raymond Arthur Boyd

Mr. Raymond Arthur Boyd, age 89 of Jonesboro, died at 2:40 p.m. Thursday, November 29, 2012 at the Memorial Hospital in Carbondale. He was born October 20, 1923 in Jonesboro, the son of Robert L. and Hattie Edwards Boyd. He married Violet L. Wilson on January 5, 1945 in Anna. Raymond is survived by his wife, Violet L. Boyd of Jonesboro; two daughters, Judith (Charles) Neal of Anna, Jennifer Rae Boyd (Jerry M.D.) Goddard of Anna; one son, Raymond Randall (Kelly) Boyd of Stonefort; ten grandchildren, Ryan (Jeannette) Neal, Shannon Goddard, Ashley Goddard, Robin (Heather) Neal, Nathan Neal, Kelle O'Malley, Matthew Arthur Goddard, Ashton Martin, Jonathon Martin, and Katrina Martin; four great grandchildren, Jordan and Connor O'Malley and Briley and Haven Martin; one sister, Jane Verble of Indianapolis; other relatives and his many special friends, the coffee drinkers at McDonald's; Friend, Rick O'Malley; special neighbors, Tim, Angie & Olivia Bowen, Bill Bowen, and Raymond's cat, Holly. He was preceded in deathby his parents; one sister, Lucille Turkington; and 2 brothers, Leon and Jimmy Boyd. Raymond was a member of the United Methodist Church in Jonesboro. He proudly served his country in the United States Army serving in World War II. Raymond worked as a bridge foreman and carpenter and in later years he was an Insurance Agent for Golden Rule Insurance.He was a member of the Southern Counties Auto Unlimited Car Club and the American Legion Hall. Funeral services for Mr. Raymond Arthur Boyd will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 3, 2012 at the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Jonesboro with Rev. Ed Falgout, and Rev. Brett Yates officiating. Interment will be in the Casper Cemetery in Anna. Military rites will be conducted at the cemetery by the Illinois National Guard Funeral Honors team of Marion. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, December 2, 2012 at the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Jonesboro. Memorial contributions may be made to the United Methodist Church in Jonesboro.
