Ray Eugene Brasel

Mr. Ray E. Brasel, age 85 of Anna, died at 7:20 a.m. Friday, November 6, 2015 in the Memorial Hospital in Carbondale. He was born May 27, 1930 in Anna, the son of Andrew Jackson and Agnes Chloe (Sharp) Brasel. He married Lois V. Smith on January 1, 1954 in Cobden. She preceded him in death on November 6, 2010. Ray is survived by his son, Richard Brasel of Cobden; two grandchildren, Jason Eiceman of Nashville, TN, and Ashleigh (Richard) Ozment of Crab Orchard; two great-grandchildren, Marleigh Dianne Ozment and Maximus Dee Ozment; son in law, Jerry Eiceman of Marion; step-sister, Claudia Jean Schulte; step-brother, William "Collan" Hill; other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Lois V. Brasel; daughter, Marilyn Eiceman; sister, Mary Lou Tucker; three brothers, Lloyd D. Brasel, Donald Sharp, and Melvin Brasel; and one step-sister, Mary J. Brice-Siebert. Ray was of the Baptist faith. He worked for twenty-five years for Bunny Bread before retiring. Ray proudly served his country in the United States Army in the 17th infantry during the Korean War. He was a recipient of the a Purple Heart during his service. Funeral services for Mr. Ray E. Brasel will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 10, 2015 in the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Anna with Rev. Joe Aldridge officiating. Interment will be in the Anna Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by the Carroll P. Foster Post #3455 of the V.F.W. in Anna and the Illinois Army National Guard Honors Team of Marion. Friends may call from 5 to 7:00 p.m. Monday, November 9, 2015 in the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Anna. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children, the Kelley Cemetery or the Illinois Veteran's Home in Anna.
