Mr. Ralph H. Lyerla, age 86 of Anna died at 7:42 pm Wednesday March 12, 2014 at the Illinois Veterans Home in Anna. He was born January 18, 1928 in Anna, the son of Harry "Jack" Afton Watson Lyerla. He married Nancy Lee Nelson on July 7, 1951 in Park Ridge. Ralph is survived by his loving wife, Nancy Lyerla of Anna; children, Bradford P. Lyerla of Chicago, Amorie "Amy" Moyer of Jefferson, WI., Nora A. (Dale) Brown of McHenry, IL.; grandchildren, Cassie (Luke) Tessman of Fort Atkinson, Rachel Brown of Elk Grove, Claire and Joseph Lyerla both of Chicago, Caleb (Dana) Brown of Milwaukee, WI., Abbey (Michael) Redfield of Water Town, WI., Jareb (Simone) Brown of Fox Lake, Micah (Lauren) Brown of Crystal Lake, Nina Lyerla of Paris France; great grandsons, Ashton Tessman of Fort Atkinson, WI., and Camden Redfield of Water Town, WI.; other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy during World War II. He graduated Carthage College with his Bachelors degree of Science and later graduated from Miami University with his Masters Degree. He taught biology at Niles Township High School in Skokie, IL. for 25 years. He lived in Hoffman Estates and served as Township Tax Collector, Supervisor, Clerk and served two terms as a Hoffman Estates Trustee. He was active in the church, little league, coached high school football, cross country, and both boys and girls track. In 1983 he moved home to the family farm. He worked as a substitute teacher throughout Union County. Ralph also served as President of the Union County Saddle Club. Ralph was a member of the Mt. Moriah Lutheran Church in Anna for many years. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him. Memorial services for Mr. Ralph H. Lyerla will be at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, March 22, 2014 in the Mt. Moriah Lutheran Church in Anna with Pastor Kathy Montira officiating. Friends are asked to go directly to the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Illinois Veteran's Home in Anna or to the Mt. Moriah Church in Anna. Memorial envelopes will be available at the church or at Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Anna.
