Mr. Orlie L. Shannon, age 89 of Jonesboro, died at 5:55 a.m. Wednesday, August 6, 2014 at the Illinois Veterans Home in Anna. He was born on September 27, 1924 in Rector, Arkansas, the son of Omer C. and Callie (Manning) Shannon. He married Mary Larrison on December 24, 1945 in Metropolis. She preceded him in death on September 27, 1995. He was employed at Choate Mental Health and Developmental Center as a Social Worker for many years. He was an ordained Minister since 1955. He was a member of Landmark Pentecostal Church in Anna. He proudly served his country in the US Army during World War II and was a life member of the Carroll P. Foster Post # 3455 of the VFW of Anna. He was very proud of his country and extremely patriotic. Orlie is survived by his three sons; Mike (Rhonda) Shannon of Cobden, Curt (Janis) Shannon of Jonesboro, and Jim (Donna) Shannon of Cobden; one daughter, Melanie Shannon of West Frankfort; seven grandchildren, David (Robin) Shannon, Brent Shannon, Alaina (Jimmy) Stone, Ricky Shannon, Shana Woodworth, Britni (William Bateman) Woodworth and Casie (Tyler) Meneese; four great grandchildren, Constance Shannon, Ethan Shannon, Breanna Shannon, and Aubree Woodworth; one sister, Mary Layer of Jonesboro, Arkansas. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Opal Thompson and Neva Pruett. Funeral services for Mr. Orlie L. Shannon will be at 1:00 p.m. Saturday August 9, 2014 in the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Anna. Interment will be in the Alto Pass Cemetery with Mike Shannon officiating. Friends may call from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Saturday, August 9, 2014 in the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Anna. Military rites will be conducted by the Carroll P. Foster Post #3455 of the VFW of Anna and the Illinois Army National Guard Military Honors Team of Marion. Memorials may be made to the Illinois Veterans Home of Anna Activity Fund or The Shannon Cemetery. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
