Noel Clifford Heil, age 78 of Cobden, died at 11:40 a.m., Monday, November 18, 2013 at his home in Cobden. He was born April 2, 1935 in Hamilton County, Illinois, the son of Noel and Nora Rachel Bond Heil. Cliff married Margaret Johnson on September 1, 1956 in Farmington, Missouri. Cliff is survived by his loving wife, Margaret Heil of Cobden; two daughters, Marva (Dennis) Watson of Carbondale, Malina (Kevin) Bonifield of Carterville; one son, Tom (Nancy) Heil of Carterville; he was lovingly known as "PA" by his eight grandchildren, Dan Watson, Maribeth Watson, Melissa (Josh) Judge, Rachel (Justin) Griffin, Jessica (Ashton) Ellett, Jennifer Bonifield, Taylor and Seth Heil; one great grandchild, Andrew Griffin; one brother, Frank Heil of Indiana; other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents. Cliff was a member of the Union Congregational Church in Cobden. He was actively involved in the Cobden Community in many aspects, with weddings, and joyous occasions and also stood by many Cobden Community in times of sorrow. For eighteen years Cliff ministered at the First Baptist Church in Cobden, and then served five years at the Union Congregational Church. He was a member of the Cobden Lions Club for fifty years, active in the Cobden Khoury League, and the Ministerial Alliance in Cobden and Union County and was a volunteer fire fighter for the Cobden Fire Department. He was a board member and served as secretary of the National Sweet Sorghum Processors Association. Cliff served as a Bailiff for the Union County Sheriff's Department and also served many years as Chaplain. During his lifetime, Cliff received many awards and accolades. In 2009 his sorghum won 1st place in the National Sweet Sorghum Competition. He was also commissioned as a Kentucky Colonel by Gov. Steve L. Beshear. The Heil family would like to thank everyone who prayed, sent cards and offered words of encouragement during this difficult time. Funeral services for Mr. Noel Clifford Heil will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 23, 2013 at the Union Congregational Church in Cobden with Rev. Bryan Morrison, Rev. Larry Johnson, Rev. Larry Buckles, Rev. Frank Heil, and Rev. Doug Bridgeman officiating. Interment will be in the Cobden Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8:00 p.m. at the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Cobden on Friday, November 22, 2013. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Union Congregational Church. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
