Monta Hymes, age 82 of Anna, passed away Thursday, November 6, 2025 at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, MO. She was born on November 4, 1943 in Honolulu, HI to Karl "Curly" Oliver and Jean Julia Hopfe. She married Michael Hymes. He preceded her in death in 2019.
Monta is survived by her children, Tina Riggs of Leesburg, FL, Letha (Darren) Schluterbush of Redmond, OR, Karl (Shannon) Basler of Anna and Melinda (JR) Gulley of Anna; grandchildren, Tabitha Sparkman, Sarah Williams, Jonathon Marks, Jessica Adams, Sam Harmon, Vicki Coles, Larry Basler, Daniela Basler, Jakob Basler, Amanda Basler, Jordan Basler, Skie Basler, Allison McCann and Ashley Hartsock; 31 great-grandchildren, 2 great great-grandchildren; other relatives and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Michael Hymes, son, Delaine Alan Basler, granddaughter, Alexis Hartsock, great-grandson, Jayce Webb and half-sister, Carla Kay.
For many years, Monta worked as the front desk clerk at Union County Hospital. She was a drummer, performing with many local bands. She enjoyed music, gardening and being outdoors. Her favorite thing to do was let her ornery side show as she aggravated those she loved. As Monta would say, "you gotta have a hobby."
Funeral services for Monta Hymes will be held at 11:00 am Thursday, November 13, 2025 at Rendleman and Hileman Funeral Home in Anna with Bill Littrell officiating. Interment will follow in St. Johns Cemetery, west of Dongola. Visitation will take place from 9:00 am until the service time at 11:00 am Thursday, November 13, 2025 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Carroll P. Foster Post 3455 VFW in Anna. Envelopes are available at Rendleman and Hileman Funeral Home.
