Mildred Lou (Harris) Smith

Mildred L. Smith, age 77 of Dongola, died Thursday, August 1, 2024 at her home. She was born June 23, 1947, the daughter of Andrew Jackson and Ora Marie (Pierce) Harris. She married William Eugene Smith, he preceded her in death on December 12, 1999.

Mildred is survived by her son, Thomas Wayne Smith of Dongola; daughter, Mary Ellen Golden of Pound, VA; grandson, Andrew Claude Golden; sister, Linda Thurston; numerous nieces and nephews; extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, William Smith; three brothers, Ray Stevens, Gene Bridges and David Harris; two sisters, Lois Cavaness and Carolyn Murray.

Mildred was a member of the Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Dongola for many years. She worked for Florsheim Shoe Factory and later for Gilster Mary Lee until her retirement. Mildred loved her family and will be dearly missed.

Graveside funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 7, 2024 at Meisenheimer Mt. Olive Cemetery in Dongola with Rev. Victor Duckworth officiating. Interment will immediately follow. Those attending are asked to go directly to the cemetery.
