Michael Kelly Wetmore

    Michael Kelly Wetmore, 62, was a devoted son and brother, and a cherished member of his community.

    For the last 25 years, he lived at Mulberry Manor and worked at JR Centre in Anna, Illinois. He was a staff favorite because he was funny and outgoing. Kelly never met a stranger, and he never forgot anyone, even if he hadn’t seen them in a long time. Everyone became a new friend. And he always gave big hugs.

    Kelly participated in Special Olympics, where he competed in track and field events, as well as bowling, for years. He loved country music, especially the group Alabama. He really enjoyed going to their concerts when they were in St. Louis. When he was younger, he also got a kick out of watching the Three Stooges on television. Some of his favorite gifts for Christmas and birthdays were toy guns, a watch, a radio and a deck of cards.

    He is survived by siblings Linda Vawter, Wally Wetmore, Jody (John) Robert, Shari (Rick) Stoops, Scott (Kathy) Wetmore, and Sean (Sarah)Wetmore; and many nieces and nephews. Kelly was preceded in death by his father, Walter Wetmore; his mother, Bonnie Wetmore; his sister, Susie Wetmore; a brother-in-law, Bruce Vawter; and a niece, Tammy Scribner.

    A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Nov. 14, at the Pentecostals of Troy, 8965 Route 162, in Troy. Rendleman and Hilleman Funeral Home in Anna is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made in Kelly’s memory to Special Olympics Illinois.
