Michael David Smith, age 55 of Anna, died Thursday, June 4, 2026. He was born on July 11, 1970 in Joliet, the son of Robert and Nancy (Blackburn) Smith.
Mike is survived by his parents, Robert and Nancy Smith; siblings, Tammy (Jon) Vicenzi, Mark (Lottie) Smith and Valerie Harris; nephew and nieces, Nathan (Aliah) Vicenzi, Jaida Smith and Kaylee Smith; great-nephews, Brooks Crane, Jameson Vicenzi and Josh Murray; good friends, Lane, Aidan and Gavin McFadden; other relatives and many friends.
Mike leaves behind a legacy of kindness, compassion, and genuine care for others. He never met a stranger. He had a gift for making people feel seen, heard, and valued. Whether through a conversation, a helping hand, or a simple act of generosity, he had a way of letting people know they mattered. His compassionate heart led him to give freely to those in need, often putting others before himself.
An avid fan of the North Carolina Tar Heels, Mike rarely missed an opportunity to cheer on his beloved team. He also spent many years coaching, investing not only in the game but in the lives of the young people he mentored. The lessons he taught went far beyond the field or court, leaving a lasting impact on countless athletes and families.
Mike adored his nieces and nephews and cherished every moment spent with them. They brought him immense joy, and he loved celebrating their accomplishments, encouraging their dreams, and simply being present in their lives.
His love extended beyond people to animals as well. Mike had a special place in his heart for his beloved cats, CeCe and Gemma, and there wasn’t an animal he wouldn’t try to help. His gentle spirit and caring nature were evident in every creature he encountered.
Mike also found joy in music, which was often the soundtrack to his life. Most importantly, he was a believer in Jesus Christ, finding hope, strength, and peace in his faith.
Mike’s life was a beautiful example of loving others well. He will be remembered for his generous heart, his unwavering kindness, his sense of humor, and the countless ways he made the world a better place simply by being in it.
Though he will be deeply missed, the love he shared and the lives he touched will continue to inspire all who knew him.
