Merl Everet Penrod, age 95 of Anna, died Saturday, October 17, 2020 at Integrity Healthcare in Anna. He was born February 11, 1925 in Wolf Lake, the son of Everet and Grace Emiline (Ballance) Penrod. He married Dorothy Marie Lynn on May 26, 1945 in Jonesboro. Merl is survived by his wife, Dorothy Penrod of Anna; daughter, Leta Marie Johnson of Belleville; grandchild, Michelle Lea (John) Kuipers of Clifton; great grandchildren, Benjamin Bradshaw Kuipers and Logan Michael Kuipers; brothers, Jimmy Penrod of Troy and Joe (Barbara) Penrod of Anna; sisters, Patty Henson of Jonesboro; other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Merl Leon Penrod; sisters, Virginia Machleith, Mildred Shelton, Eula Walker, Opal Sadler, and Helen Dunagan. Merl was a family man and loved spending time with his family. He was a Cardinal's baseball fan and he enjoyed helping others with their farming in his free time. He worked as a switchman for the railroad for 36 years. Graveside funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 20, 2020 at the Anna Cemetery with Pastor Jack Richardson officiating. Interment will immediately follow. Friends may call from 1:30 p.m. until the service hour at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 20, 2020 at the cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Envelopes will be available at the cemetery and the Rendleman and Hileman Funeral Home in Anna.
