Mary Virginia Lence

Mary Virginia Lence, age 93 of Lick Creek, passed away on Saturday, August 15, 2020 at her sons home. She was born 7 miles east of Anna, in Union County on August 26, 1926, the daughter of George and Etta (Gurley) Manus. She married Walter Truman Lence on May 8, 1943. He preceded her in death on June 24, 2004. Virginia is survived by her two sons, Richard (Patty) Lence of Anna, Mervin (Sue) Lence of Lick Creek; daughter, Rosalee Edwards of Marion; eight grandchildren, John (Dietta) Lence, Robert (Laura) Lence, Laura Lence, David Lence, Mervin Jr. (Tammy) Lence, Larry Lence, Mike Craft and Becky (Jay) Arnett; twenty-five great-grandchildren; twelve great-great grandchildren; sister, Emma Williams of Olmsted; many nieces an nephews; other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Walter Truman Lence; sons, Walter and George Lence; grandsons, Joshua and Rhett Lence; two sisters, Mellie Karraker and Nellie Childers; two brothers, Raymond and Wayne Manus. Virginia enjoyed working on family genealogy an tending to her flowers. It was no surprise to see her digging up dandelions with her butter knife all the way into summer of 2020. She was a member of the United Missionary Baptist Church in Lick Creek. Virginia was a strong Christian woman who dearly loved her family. Virginia's family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Micah Oakley, Bounceback, LHC Home Health Care, Hospice of Southern Illinois, and Kristie Bloodworth for all the special care that was given to their mother. Graveside funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 18, 2020 in the Ebenezer Hall Cemetery in Lick Creek. Interment will immediately follow. Everyone attending is asked to go directly to the cemetery. Face coverings will be required and observe social distancing guidelines. Memorial contributions may be made to the Ebenezer Hall Cemetery. Envelopes will be available at the cemetery and the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home.
