Marvin E. Caraker, age 91 of Anna, formerly of Cobden, died Thursday, May 10, 2018 in the Illinois Veteran's Home in Anna. He was born February 1, 1927 in Anna, the son of Phillip M. and Lona (Russell) Caraker. He married Mary Sue Moreland on October 3, 1961 in East St. Louis. She preceded him in death on September 14, 2011. Marvin is survived by his children, Lee (Norma) Caraker of Du Quoin, Mitzi (Jim) Stricklin of Pinckneyville, Robert Caraker of Springfield, MO, Lois (B.J.) Kent of Florida; thirteen grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; sister in law, Gayle Caraker of Anna; other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary Sue Caraker; son, Jason Caraker; daughter, Candi Hayward; granddaughter, Brandie Caraker; brother, Richard Caraker and one sister, Lois Blessing. Marvin was a member of the Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during WWII. He worked for the Illinois Central Railroad for fifty years as a conductor before his retirement. He held many memberships over the years and enjoyed being involved in various activities. He was a life member of the Carroll P. Foster Post #3455 of the V.F.W. in Anna, the Anna Moose Lodge, American Legion, the United States Transportation Organization; and the Lake of Egypt Association. Funeral services for Marvin E. Caraker will be at 1:00 p.m. Friday, May 18, 2018 in the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Cobden with Doug Bridgeman officiating. Interment will be in the Cobden Cemetery. Graveside military rites will be conducted by the Carroll P. Foster Post #3455 of the V.F.W. in Anna and the Illinois Army National Guard Funeral Honor Team of Marion Friends may call after 11:00 and until the service hour at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, May 18, 2018 in the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Cobden. Memorial contributions may be made to the Illinois Veteran's Home in Anna. Envelopes will be available in the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home.
