Mrs. Martha J. Furlow, age 83 of Cobden, died at 12:35 p.m. Monday, January 19, 2015 in the Anna Rehab and Nursing Center. She was born March 7, 1931 in Wolf Lake, the daughter of Frank A. and Pearl O. Sims Thomas. She married Raymond Furlow, on November 7, 1946 in Oceola, Arkansas. Martha is survived by her loving husband, Raymond Furlow of Cobden; two sons, Raymond (Sheryl) Furlow of Cobden and Bobby J. Furlow of Clinton, KY; three grandchildren, Josh J. Furlow, Jeff Furlow, and Mike Furlow; one brother, Charles Allen Thomas of Pennsylvania; other relatives and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents. Martha was a member of the Makanda Baptist Church, the V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary; and Anna Moose Lodge Auxiliary. She loved gardening, cooking and canning. She worked many years for Southern Illinois University in Carbondale as a supervisor in the laundry department. Funeral services for Mrs. Martha J. Furlow will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 23, 2015 in the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Cobden with Rev. Paul Tirey officiating. Interment will be in the Evergreen Cemetery in Makanda. Friends may call from 5 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, January 22, 2015 in the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Cobden. Memorial contributions may be made to Celtic Hospice or Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital. Envelopes will be available in the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Cobden.
