Margie Abernathy

Margie Abernathy, age 85 of Wolf Lake, passed away Wednesday, May 7, 2025 at Mercy Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau, MO. She was born May 9, 1939 in Union County, the daughter of Henry and Jeffie (Brockham) Farmer. She married Dean Abernathy on April 28, 1958. He preceded her in death October 14, 1990.

Margie is survived by her daughter, Pam Marr of Wolf Lake; grandchildren, Stephen Marr of Cape Girardeau, MO, Brett Farmer of Murphysboro, Justin (Talia) Farmer of Ava, Jennifer Ashabranner of Gulfport, MS, and Joshua Abernathy of Pensacola, FL; great-grandchildren, Hunter Ashabranner of Montgomery, Al, Tori Ashabranner of Bay Minette, AL, Andrew, Fiona, and Braeden Farmer; many nieces and nephews, other relatives, and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; three sons, Jimmy Farmer, Jerry and Gary Abernathy; three grandchildren, Travis, Robert, and Sarah Farmer; three brothers; four sisters, and beloved dog, Hoppy.

Margie worked at Mercy Southeast Hospital for over 29 years. She touched many lives during the time she worked there. Margie was a caring and loving person, always helping people. She was a great mother and loved her family. She enjoyed working in the yard and tending to her flowers. She had a love for animals, especially Hoppy.
