Margaret Ann Dexter

Margaret Ann Dexter, 73 of Montgomery, IL passed away on Sunday, May 5, 2013 at her home with her children and grandchildren by her side. Margaret commonly referred to as Margo was born on July 22, 1939 in Cobden, Illinois to Cecil and Lucille Smith. She attended Cobden Community Schools and graduated in 1957. Later that same year Margaret married Gerald "Jerry" Dexter. Their union of 53 years produced three children, 8 grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren. She is survived by two children, Steve Dexter and wife Shari of Plano, IL and Sheri (Dexter) Madison and husband John of Strunk, KY; daughter in law, Diane Dexter of Burlington, IL; eight grandchildren, Justin Jefferson and wife Mindy of Alhambra, IL, Jessica Storlie and husband Brian of Lake City, MN, Nicole Klatt and husband Kyle of Plano, IL, Amy Dexter of Burlington, IL, Maggie Dexter of Plano, IL, Chad Dexter of Burlington, IL, Stevie Dexter and Ali of Plano, IL, and Jeremy Dexter of Carbondale, IL. Great Grandchildren are Cody, Jake, Kaylee, Ada, Alyssa, Annabelle, Titus, Lukas, Olivia, and Macie. Brothers are Carroll Smith and wife Janice of Jonesboro, IL, Kenny Smith and wife Rosie of Cobden, IL, and Wally Smith of Anna, IL. Sisters are Mary Beth Smith of Jonesboro, IL, and Kathy Burris and husband Wesley of Jonesboro, IL. Margaret was preceded in death by her husband Jerry, her son Mike, parents Cecil and Lucille Smith, a her brother Charles Lee. Margaret is well known by her friends as the funny witty one. She was dearly loved by her family and will always be considered as their "ROCK." She spent most of her free time playing with her grandchildren and great grandchildren spoiling each of them with her love and generosity. Margaret obtained her nursing degree later in life and spent the majority of her career working for the State of Illinois Department of Corrections. Funeral services for Mrs. Margaret Dexter will be at 1:00 p.m. Friday, May 10, 2013 at the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Cobden with Rev. Richard Whitman officiating. Interment will be in the Cobden Cemetery. Friends may call after 11:00 a.m. and until the service hour at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, May 9, 2013 at the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Cobden.
